This project focuses on people in the midst of constructing their identity who, finding little connection with their immediate social, cultural, or geographical surroundings, turn elsewhere — adopting ideas, styles, signs, and symbols from parts of the world far from their own. In adapting these references to their specific circumstances, they create new meaning, a personal code that sets them apart and reaffirms their individuality. The result is something that feels, unmistakably, like their own.
